When You Need Temporary Propping Services

You may be looking at either lifting your property or excavating beneath it for a basement—we can support your property while work is being carried out.

Common scenarios where homeowners need temporary propping systems include:

  • Basement dig-outs and conversions
  • Installing new concrete foundations or rib raft slabs
  • Major structural renovations requiring sub-floor access
  • Foundation repairs on older homes with settling or damage

Unlike a full house lift, propping can support your home at its existing height, giving builders the access they need without permanently raising the structure.

How Our Temporary Propping Systems Work

Our engineered steel beams have no deflection when supporting the building, resulting in less damage to the building and helping keep everything level while your renovations are carried out. We use steel beam systems rather than truck-based lifting to ensure minimal damage to your property, garden, and driveway.

We offer two support methods depending on your site and project:

Internal ground floor framing and steel truss supports beneath a lifted house
Interior Perimeter Support

The traditional method of supporting a building with house lifting sty blocks and steel beams placed directly beneath the building. This option is often used when the access around the perimeter of the building is limited.

House Lifting
Exterior Free-Span Support

Free spanning the entire building, this system enables the building to be supported on a raft of steel beams and house lifting sty blocks placed on the outside perimeter of the building. The advantage of using this system for house propping in Auckland is that you can work unencumbered beneath the building—it is the preferred method when laying a rib-raft floor, also known as a waffle slab.

Why Work with Our Temporary Propping Contractors?

We have found that most builders prefer to utilise both systems, because once the floor slab has been poured, the supporting free-span beam can be reconfigured to allow supporting stacks to then be placed inside the perimeter of the building. This enables the perimeter wall to be constructed unencumbered, as the house-lifting sty blocks can then be moved directly underneath the dwelling, allowing you to erect the external walls without the house-lifting gear causing any obstruction.

As experienced temporary propping contractors, we coordinate directly with your build team. We’ll reconfigure the support system at each stage of the project, from excavation through to slab pour and wall construction. Your builders will always have clear access where needed.

Beyond Propping: Full Foundation Support

Sometimes propping is just one piece of a larger project. If you need to raise your home—not just support it—our house lifting service can elevate your property up to 3 metres. For homes with compromised foundations, we also offer underpinning house foundation services to strengthen the structure.

We service Auckland and beyond, with house support in Northland andhouse support in Hamilton for regional coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

House propping supports your home at its current height during construction, renovations, or foundation work, giving builders access underneath.

House lifting raises the entire structure, usually to add more space below or address flood risk or foundation issues.

The setup time depends on the size and accessibility of your property; however, we can typically install most propping systems within a day or two. We coordinate closely with your builder to ensure minimal delays before work continues beneath the house.

Generally, temporary propping itself does not require separate consent. However, the work being carried out underneath, such as foundation replacement or basement excavation, often does.

It’s best to check with your builder or local council, and our team can help advise based on your specific project.
